Subaru BRZ gets an engine three times the size of the original

The latest facelift of the Subaru BRZ series brought with it a performance increase from 200 hp (149 kW) to 205 (153), which, while always welcome, wasn’t exactly what many were hoping for.

Brill Steel Motorsport, on the other hand, did the impossible and released a wild version of the BRZ driven by a 6.2L V8 monster of an engine. Made by General Motors, the unit can produce up to 580 hp (433 kW) and 912 Nm (673 lb×ft) of torque.

Of course, the car has received more than a performance boost. The engineers fitted it with a new Rocket Bunny widebody kit with a ducktail spoiler in the back, a ventilated hood cover and a custom set of 19-inch NTM wheels. They also reduced the road clearance considerably.

This isn’t the first time car enthusiasts try to equip cars like the BRZ or the Toyota 86 with enormous eight-cylinder engines. Two years ago, professional car tuner Ryan Tuerck and his partners equipped the same car with a 4.5L V8. However, the hood could no longer be closed due to the sheer size of the engine.
