Watch this 1,250-hp Opel Kadett burn through the half-mile

An old Opel Kadett has recently been filmed accelerating like mad on a drag strip in Germany. Its creators claim the car is capable of delivering up to the mind-blowing 1,250 hp (932 kW) to the wheels.

On the outside, you will have difficulty telling the tuned-up Opel Kadett from its factory version. There are custom wheels, granted, a giant intercooler sitting behind the radiator grille, and an added safety cage – but that’s it.

It’s all different in the engine bay, though. The tuners have squeezed merry hell out of the stock 2.0-liter engine by equipping it with a turbocharger capable of 3.1 bar and retrofitting it with a slew of other upgrades. The beastly unit works with Getrag’s old F28 transmission.

Watch the video even if you don’t believe that an Opel Kadett can accelerate to 312 km/h (194 mph) on a half-mile strip. Actually, watch it especially if you don’t believe that.
