Have you heard what the extremely rare Merc Evolution II sounds like?

A video has recently been posted on YouTube featuring an ultra-rare Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II racecar doing laps at Nurburgring. The footage was recorded by Scuderia Hanseat, a sports driving school. Hit ‘Play’ and find out what the vehicle actually sounds like.

The original Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 Evolution II debuted in 1989. Compared to the first-generation Evo I, it had a small spoiler and extended wheel arches.

The racecar also featured a 2.5-liter engine rated at 235 hp / 175 kW (with the PowerPack option installed), a special aerodynamic kit, an adjustable rear wing and a set of custom 17-inch wheels.

Perhaps most interestingly, the Evolution II had an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.29, which is just about as low as it ever gets. Of all the modern sports cars, only the Bentley Continental GT comes close to it in terms of sheer aerodynamic performance.

Mercedes-Benz has produced a total of 502 Evolution II cars, each priced at what now approximately amounts to €70,000.
