Bosch to unveil a self-driving EV shuttle concept at CES Las-Vegas

Bosch just announced it would be introducing a fully autonomous EV concept at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las-Vegas early next year. The company emphasized it had no intention to enter the self-driving vehicle market, but is willing to provide a software solution to be used by such vehicles built by other manufacturers.

The EV looks like a passenger cabin made of glass sitting on a custom chassis. There is a multimedia system inside that the passengers can use separately from each other (i.e., when they want to watch different movies or listen to different music). The multimedia also supports smartphone broadcasting via Wi-Fi.

An arrangement of cameras located inside monitors the interior of the car to make sure there is no litter or left items.

The conceptual EV relies on its radars and ultrasound sensors to move around in an urban environment.

Bosch engineers have gone as far as to design the entire drivetrain of the car. A special control chip monitors the remaining battery charge and automatically guides the EV to the nearest charging station when low.

The company says such autonomous shuttles will appear on city streets around the world in the near future. According to some estimations, there will be around 2,000,000 such vehicles on the streets in the USA, Europe and China just two years from now.
