Hyundai to unveil a hydrogen-based supercar at the Detroit show

Hyundai N, the sports-oriented subdivision of Hyundai, has designed and built a prototype hydrogen supercar that it will showcase at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show, various media claim.

According to the Hyundai N chief, the company currently possesses the most advanced hydrogen car tech on the market.

Hyundai’s interest in hydrogel fuel cell-powered cars dates back many years. Some time ago, the company introduced a virtual car called the N 2025 into Gran Turismo 6. The video game prototype came equipped with four electric engines and a hydrogen cell array jointly capable of exceeding 880 horsepower (656 kW).

The turbine of the virtual N 2025 could spin up to 200,000 RPM by circulating air through the fuel cells, while a system of side-mounted air ducts provided for additional downforce. Later on, a similar engineering solution was adopted in the real-life concept racecar called the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo.
