Volkswagen Passat new details, specs revealed

As we told in an earlier story, Volkswagen brings the next-gen Passat to this year’s Detroit Motor Show in the United States. Well, the show is on the road, and the company has released new details and technical specifications concerning the upcoming sedan series.

The North American version of the VW Passat actually looks a lot like the current-gen Jetta. Both share the same radiator grille design with horizontal ribs visually merged with the headlights.

The new Passat generation packs the old four-cylinder gasoline engine updated with an improved hydraulic torque converter design and a new ECU. While the output of the engine remains unchanged at 176 horsepower (131 kilowatts), its torque rises from 250 Nm / 184 lbft to 280 Nm / 207 lbft. As for the old 3.6 VR6, it will no longer be abailable.

The 2019 Volkswagen Passat comes equipped with adaptive cruise control, lane control, blind spot monitor, AEB and a pedestrian recognition feature.

The European version of the new Passat will celebrate its premiere in February 2019. According to VW, it will be getting a hi-end infotainment system with more features, as well as a number of innovative driver aids.
