The Nissan IMs is an off-road sedan concept with 490 horses under the hood

Japanese car manufacturer Nissan has come to the Detroit Motor Show with the Nissan IMs, an innovative off-road sedan prototype trading side mirrors for cameras and flaunting ‘suicide doors’ that open against the traffic.

The ‘elevated sports sedan’ features a highly customizable interior that can accommodate up to five passengers, and packs a number of wide touchscreen displays.

The car comes powered by two electric motors (one per axle) producing a total of 490 hp (365 kW) and 800 Nm (590 pound-feet) of torque. Both draw their power from a 115 kWh traction battery rated for approx. 600 kilometers (370 miles) of range.

As a semi-autonomous (i.e., self-driving) car, the Nissan IMs Concept automatically hides the steering wheel in the front fascia at a push of a button. It then turns the front seats 180 degrees so that all passengers can sit facing each other.

Nissan said nothing regarding when – and if – the car ever makes it onto actual mass market.
