Ford Explorer gets hybrid and sport versions

Car manufacturer Ford has introduced the visitors of the Detroit auto salon to two new trim versions of its 6th-gen Explorer SUV line: the electrified Hybrid and the sporty ST. Sales will likely begin in the spring of 2019.

The Hybrid trim is based on a 3.3-liter V6 gasoline engine and an electric motor together guaranteed to produce up to 323 horsepower (241 kilowatts). Normally, a 10-speed automatic transmission is tasked with bringing that power to the rear wheels, although you may opt for the 4WD option if you need it.

Base features include AEB, rear view camera, and lane control. Additionally available are adaptive cruise control, parking assistance, a 360-degree camera view system, and a hi-end sound system consisting of 14 speakers.

The sports-oriented ST trim packs a 3.0-liter V6 engine capable of exceeding 400 hp (300 kW). Like the one above, it also links to a 10-speed automatic transmission. On the outside, the ST trim sports new bumpers, radiator grille, roof railings, 21-inch wheels and red brake supports.

Prices will be available later.
