Ford reveals the new Mondeo

Car manufacturer Ford has debuted the next generation of its Mondeo fastback/sedan/estate series. For the first time, the estate version will ship with an optional hybrid powertrain.

Exterior changes are minimal. The updated Mondeo sports a revised front fascia, with the headlights jointed together by a chromed stripe and the fog lights being slightly different. As for the radiator grille, it now sports chromed fins (Titanium trim version), black fins (St-Line) or V-shaped silvery ribs (Vignale).

The inside of the car should now feel more comfortable owing to the use of high-quality trimming materials and decorative inserts. Those who opt for the eight-speed automatic transmission will also find a selector disc in place of the old gear shifter.

The new Ford Mondeo ships with the automatic transmission if you choose one of the two available diesel engines, one capable of 150 hp (112 kW) and the other pumping out 190 hp (142 kW). Further options include a 2.0-liter diesel unit with 120 hp (90 kW) and a 1.6-liter gasoline engine capable of 165 hp (123 kW).

The new Mondeo hybrid lineup uses a drivetrain composed of a 2.0L engine with 187 hp (140 kW) at its disposal, an electric motor (power output unknown) and a small 1.4 kWh battery. The sedan consumes around 4.2 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers, while the estate leans towards 4.4 liters. (British: 67 and 64 MPG, accordingly. U.S.: 56 and 53 MPG).

Options include traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control and a multimedia system with an eight-inch touchscreen display.

Sales in Europe begin in March 2019.
