Espied: VW I.D. hatchback tested on snowy roads

German automotive giant Volkswagen AG has been testing its all-electric I.D. hatchback out in the open lately, as these spy photos suggest.

The new car should arrive to the showrooms later this year, although this still isn’t official. As a matter of fact, we still don’t know what it will be called. You may have heard of the “Volkswagen I.D. Neo”, but that’s what they call it inside the company. The name is likely to change later.

The new hatchback utilizes the MEB chassis purpose-built by the company for its all-electric releases. Its dimensions are similar to those of the current-generation Golf, with the length likely being 4,250 mm (14 ft.) or less.

The alleged VW I.D. Neo comes driven with a 170 hp (127 kW) strong engine mounted on the rear axle. Depending on the trim version, it will offer a driving range varying between 330 and 550 km (205 and 342 miles, respectively).

The design of the car more or less mimics that of the I.D. Concept the company initially revealed at the Paris International Motor Show two years ago. There are no prices available at this point, but rumors say the EV may enter the market in Europe priced at €25,000.
