Hyundai attempts to visualize the interior of a future car

South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai has come out with an interesting car interior concept featuring an original steering wheel fitted with touch panels and a layered digital dashboard. The company says this is what it believes all vehicle interiors will look like in the near future. An expert team from the Würzburg Institute for Traffic Sciences, Germany (WIVW) have tested and approved of the design.

The company has deliberately picked its i30 mini hatchback to test the new interface on, saying that such technological advancements shouldn’t be limited to the premium market segment.

As you can see on the photos, the dashboard of this Hyundai i30 was fitted with a dual-layer display, with the inner layer lying 6 mm (0.23 inches) below the outer one, resulting in a pseudo-3D effect.

As for the steering wheel, it has five completely customizable sensor controls on each of its sides. The pictograms displayed on the sensor buttons change dynamically depending on the current state of the car and the mode selected on the dashboard.

After testing the prototype cockpit, the WIVW research team concluded that it does not distract the driver from the road too much and also complies with all NHTSA and AAM safety requirements.
