New Lincoln Aviator to get a high-end audio system

Lincoln says it will equip the next version of its Aviator luxury SUV with the Revel Ultima 3D surround sound system consisting of 28 speakers. The company promises “a whole new level of immersion in the wondrous world of music”. The car now has a volume slider on the center console and a few two-tier speakers on the ceiling.

The new sound system will support three selectable modes: Stereo, Audience, and On-Stage. You may fine-tune the 3D effect from absent (similar to sitting between a pair of regular stereo speakers) to symphonic (simulates your presence on stage during a concert in a music hall).

The Revel Ultima 3D system includes a couple of subwoofers, a mid-woofer, an amp, several mid-range speakers, and several tweeters (i.e., high-frequency speakers). It supports the Clari-Fi feature that attempts to restore the quality of music compressed using lossy compression methods.

To guarantee the optimum sound environment, the company fitted the car with custom-designed wheel arches, bottom plates, and acoustic glass (the windshield plus side windows).

The next Aviator will also take advantage of special musical notifications. The company hired the Detroit Symphonic Orchestra to record six different melodies and afterwards edited them into small notification sounds.
