New 2020 Hyundai Sonata flaunts its Sensuous Sportiness body

Hyundai has unveiled the eighth generation of its Sonata sedan/saloon at the 2019 New York Auto Show. The car will ship with a choice between a 1.6-liter turbocharged gas engine (182 hp / 136 kW) and a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated unit (193 hp / 144 kW). Transmission options include six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic.

The updated Sonata boasts a brand-new body style inspired by Hyundai’s fresh Sensuous Sportiness design philosophy, which the company first implemented in the last year’s Le Fil Rouge Concept. It also borrows certain stylistic features from the HDC-2 Grandmaster SUV. Especially noticeable are squinted headlights, an original radiator grille, and custom wheels.

Most importantly, the vehicle has an extremely low aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.27. As for the dimensions, it is 45 mm (1.8”) longer, 25 mm (1”) wider and 30 mm (1.2”) less tall than its predecessor, with an extra 35 mm (1.4”) between the axles.

For the first time in its history, the Sonata series will ship with an all-digital instrument panel and a 12-channel Bose audio system on board. The driver will also be able to take advantage of satellite navigation, a 10.25” multimedia display, AEB, lane control, and cruise control.
