Ford knows better how to drive your shopping cart than you

A group of specialists from Ford has come up with a way to make the supermarket shopping cart mayhem more manageable. They equipped one with Ford’s Pre-Collision Assist feature that forces the cart to a halt whenever it detects an obstacle.

A special sensor is used to monitor the surrounding area for people and objects. Whenever the system detects any on the collision course, it immidiately engages an emergency brake.

Ford representatives said they hoped their invention would be primarily appreciated by parents with small children who frequently visit supermarkets.

That said, Honda was probably the first to come up with a similar shopping cart concept. Back when it debuted, it had cameras and proximity sensors feeding data to an on-board computer for processing.
