Skoda’s Vision GT Concept makes a surprise appearance at the Shenzhen 2019

Skoda has caused quite a stir at the ongoing 2019 Shenzhen Auto Show in China when it unexpectedly took the wraps off a brand-new SUV called the Vision GT Concept.

The car wears a dual-tone paint and looks not unlike a sported-up Skoda Kamiq that debuted in China in 2018. The similarities extend as far as the waistline, with the front fascia of the newcomer styled closer to the Europe-sold Scala hatchback.

The 20-inch wheels and the slanting roof the car comes with are both signs of a performance vehicle. Responsible for the design is SAIC-VW, a joint enterprise located in China that produces various car marques for the local market (Skoda included).

The Vision GT will enter the mass market before the end of 2019, the company claims.  According to reports of some Chinese news media, it will be based on the MQB modular architecture, and not the PQ25 platform of the current Kamiq. If true, this might mean that we will eventually see the new SUV on overseas markets as well.
