Caught on Camera: Renault Megane PHEV spotted during a test drive

Last autumn, Renault said it was working on hybrid versions of its Captur, Clio and Megane models. Now it looks like the latter could end up being the first one to get released. At least, the Megane PHEV was the first vehicle to be photographed by car spotters.

Overall, the car looks identical to the regular, gasoline-chugging 2020 Megane. Newly styled elements include bumpers, the front grille and the headlights. In addition, there is a charging port on the rear left fender. Some test mules spotted earlier also had flared rear fenders, which could indicate a broader wheelspan.

Inside, the hybrid car houses a digital instrument cluster and an updated multimedia system.

In an earlier news, the French carmaker announced the development of its own hybrid powertrain known as the e-Tech. The company refused to provide any specifics, but we assume it would consist of a turbocharged gas engine, an electric motor and a small battery sufficient for 50 km (31 miles) of all-electric range at best.

The standard 2020 Renault Megane will debut at the annual International Motor Show Germany held in Frankfurt in September 2019. Whether the manufacturer brings the hybrid variant along as well or not remains uncertain.
