2020 Lexus GX update brings improved off-road capabilities

Japanese luxury carmaker Lexus has unveiled the 2020 facelift of its GX SUV. The car gained a plethora of electronic aids and better off-road equipment.

This is the first mid-generational refresh the Lexus GX series has had since 2013. If you order the standard trim version, though, the visual differences will boil down to a bulkier front grille, restyled headlights, and L-shaped LED daytime running lights.

Opt for the Sport Design package, and things liven up quite a bit. Included are new side mirror caps, 19-inch wheels and fancy black exhaust tips. Buy the Off-Road pack, and you get fuel tank protection, an oil-based cooling system for the transmission, a 360-degree camera system, and a feature called Multi-Terrain Select, which should optimize the parameters of the engine, transmission and suspension depending on the surface you drive on.

Powering the facelifted series is the same old 4.6-liter V8 engine good for 305 hp (227 kW) and 446 Nm (329 pound-feet) of torque. A six-speed transfer-case transmission is used to deliver the power to all four wheels.

Even in its most basic implementation, the Lexus GX always ships with adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, and automatic high beam systems.
