Pre-production Skoda Kodiaq spotted on the road

Skoda has begun testing a facelifted version of its flagship SUV Kodiaq on public roads, as these spy shots seem to indicate. The official premiere won’t happen until late this years or early 2020, so let’s grasp this opportunity to get acquainted with it half a year in advance.

Unless more design changes are planned that we don’t know about, the 2020 Kodiaq facelift will ship with two-tier LED Matrix headlights. It will also get Superb-style dynamic turn signals and Kamiq-like brake lights.

As far as the tech is concerned, the mid-generational refresh adds a hybrid Kodiaq to the family. Based on a 1.4-liter turbocharged gasoline engine rated at 156 hp (115 kW) and an electric motor adding 115 hp (85 kW) of its own, the drivetrain delivers a total of 218 hp (163 kW) to the wheels. The 13 kWh traction battery will be sufficient for 55 kilometers (34 miles) of all-electric driving.

The 2020 Skoda Kodiaq will also ship with the same assortment of 2.0-liter diesel engines as the latest Volkswagen Passat, which means a choice in the 150 – 240 hp (112 – 180 kW) range.
