Bentley pledges to switch to EV production by 2023

Chris Craft, Bentley’s Board Director for Sales and Marketing, let it slip in a recent interview that the company intended to release hybrid counterparts of its entire vehicle range by the year 2023, followed by its first all-electric car in 2025.

Craft pointed out that electric vehicles are part of the company’s future. According to him, while the EV market share may not be too big yet, it is steadily growing, and Bentley has been receiving more and more requests from its customers interested in nature-friendly cars lately.

He said electrified and all-electric powertrains are the ideal choice for luxury carmakers like Bentley, since they are virtually silent and produce superb amounts of torque.

In the meantime, the Bentley Bentayga SUV remains the British marque’s only vehicle on the market that you can buy with a hybrid powertrain. We suspect that the Continental GT, Flying Spur, and Mulsanne will be the next to make a switch from fossil fuel to electricity. The exact technical specs remain unknown, but we do know that the Bentayga hybrid ships with a 3.0-liter turbo V6, an electric motor, and a traction battery sufficient for up to 50 kilometers (31 miles) of purely electric driving. Chances are fairly good that the other three will also end up with this tech.
