VW T-Roc convertible to premiere in 2019

A new video featuring an open-top test mule based on the Volkswagen T-Roc has been published. According to the manufacturer, the convertible will debut before the end of 2019 and enter production in 2020. It will be available internationally, with Europe being the primary target market.

The 2020 Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet first appeared on the streets when the company began driving tests in October last year. The spy shots revealed to us what looked like a two-door body with a retractable soft top. We expect it to ship in the front-wheel drive version only, since combining an AWD system with the retractable soft top is challenging due to weight limitations.

According to rumors, the vehicle will be offered with a choice between a brand-new 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 150 hp (112 kW) and its 2.0-liter counterpart capable of 190 hp (142 kW). The transmission can be six-speed manual or seven-speed DCT.

The upcoming T-Roc Cabriolet notwithstanding, Volkswagen AG has no open-top vehicles on offer right now. The Golf Cabriolet and the Beetle Convertible went out of production several years ago.
