Kia XCeed debuts with extra ride height, 204-hp turbo and digital dash

South Korean car manufacturer Kia has officially revealed the XCeed, a new crossover/SUV based on the 3rd generation of its Ceed hatchback.

At 4,935 millimeters (16.2 feet) long, the newcomer is 85 mm (3.3”) longer than the regular Ceed. At 1,826 mm (6 ft.) wide, it is 25 mm / 1” wider, and at 1,490 mm (4.9 ft.) tall, it is 43 mm / 1.7” taller. The road clearance now amounts to a respectable 184 mm (7.2”), up from 142 mm / 5.5” of the normal Ceed.

The trunk volume has also increased. It now amounts to 426 liters (15.1 sq. ft.) with the rear seats up and expands to 1378 l (48.7 ft.) with the seats folded.

Compared to its urban version, the off-road-going XCeed sports a redesigned front end complete with new headlights, grille and bumper. The interior, on the other hand, remains mostly identical to the rest of the series. Unlike the regular Ceed, the SUV ships with the optional 12.3-inch digital dashboard.

Engine selection for Europe includes a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine rated at 120 hp (90 kW), a 1.4-liter turbo-four capable of 140 hp (104 kW), and a 1.6-liter turbo-four producing 204 hp (152 kW). There are also two 1.6-liter diesel units to choose from, rated at 115 and 136 hp (86 and 101 kW, respectively). The crossover comes strictly front-wheel driven, but you may choose between six-speed manual and seven-speed DCT for the transmission.

The Kia XCeed will arrive on the market in Europe in the third quarter of 2019.
