Finita la Camaro: Chevrolet considering putting its iconic muscle car out of production

According to sources claiming inside knowledge of the affairs in General Motors, Chevrolet will study the consumer interest in its Camaro muscle car until the end 2019 and then possibly discontinue its production if there is not enough demand.

The rumor holds that the management of the U.S. car marque views the market prospects of this particular model in a skeptical light and doesn’t want to bear losses because of it. If found less-than-viable, production of the Camaro will permanently end in 2023.

Mass media have made an official enquiry with General Motors asking to clarify the situation. In response, the company simply chose to remind everyone of the upcoming mid-generational refresh of the model. In a few months, Chevrolet will be unveiling the new Camaro LT1 and its performance modification, the Camaro SS, which will inherit its front fascia from the Camaro Shock Concept.

Whether you choose to believe the rumors or not, there is no denying the declining sales volumes. Fewer than 51,000 units were sold in the USA in 2018, mere two years after the arrival of the new generation, marking the model’s single worst sales year over the past decade.
