Porsche unveils a new endurance race-ready supercar

German automobile company Porsche has taken the wraps off an updated version of its 911 RSR racing supercar. The newcomer boasts a flat-six engine with the largest displacement volume in the history of the 911 series.

The company emphasizes that 95% of the vehicle has been either designed from scratch or thoroughly updated. The only surviving legacy parts include certain suspension components, the clutch, the brakes, the lighting, and the driver seat.

The engine is now mounted in front of the car’s rear axle and boasts 4,194 cubic centimeters (4.2 liters) of displacement. Its performance is estimated at 515 horsepower (380 kilowatts). A more rigid six-speed DSG transmission is used to send the torque to the rear wheels.

The refreshed 911 RSR also features a new exhaust system culminating in two sidepipes, leaving more space at the bottom for a larger rear diffuser.

The 2019 Porsche 911 RSR will participate in the Silverstone stage of the FIA WEC championship on September 1, so stay tuned!
