Lexus GXOR Concept swears off asphalt forever

The Lexus GX is, beyond all doubt, a capable off-road vehicle, but it still knows it limits. For those of us who live and breathe wilderness trips, the company just showed what it called the Lexus GXOR Concept (stands for ‘GX Off-Road’).

The base vehicle must have been a pleasure for the engineers to work with. When complete, the unique 4WD SUV rolled out of the garage sporting a decent lift kit, 18-inch wheels wrapped in 275/70 mud tires, a custom front bumper with an integrated winch, a snorkel, auxiliary lighting, an expedition rack, solar batteries and assorted metallic boxes for storage.

Lift the tailgate, and you will see even more storage containers for all you may ever need away from the trodden path.

The show car is depicted hauling a trailer, but no further details are given.

The GXOR Concept wears a matte black livery that looks like it would blend in perfectly with impassable mud pools, dusty cross-country roads and sunburned expanses.

Powering the car is the standard 4.6-liter V8 gasoline engine with 305 hp (228 kW) at its disposal, sending the torque to all four wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

It has to be said, the car looks just about fit enough to survive an apocalypse in. Too bad it will never become a mass-produced model.
