GME-tuned Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk can do 922 HP

More than a year ago, German tuner GME Performance set off to make the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT as powerful as its flagship variant, the Trackhawk. It decidedly did a nice job, but at 600 hp (447 kW), the end result was still a bit far from Trackhawk’s 717 hp (535 kW). The team decided to leave well enough alone and tackled the flagship instead.

The most expensive Grand Cherokee money can buy comes equipped with the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine as the Dodge Challenger and Charger. As long as you can safely raise the boost pressure, you can extract around 1,000 horses out of that mill. That is exactly what GME Performance did.

Raising the pressure by almost 1.2 bar necessitated swapping numerous components out for their heavy-duty, performance-oriented counterparts. This included the supercharger pulley, the crankshaft pulley, the drive belt, the fuel pump and the injection system, among other things. Needless to say, extensive tweaks were made in the engine and transmission control firmware.

Once finished, the brake horsepower of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk ascended to 922 bhp (688 kW), while the maximum torque rose to an impressive 1,076 Nm (794 lb-ft). The SUV now sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in barely more than three seconds and maxes out somewhere beyond the 300 km/h (186 mph) mark. Here you go: another wannabe Bugatti Veyron killer, and it is a freakin’ SUV!

That said, things are going to get even more interesting, as GME Performance says it is working on the next stage of the upgrade, one that would take the Grand Cherokee well past the 1,000 hp (745 kW) mark.
