New Mercedes-AMG GT R Black Series spied at the Nürburgring

The AMG GT R PRO is the most capable Mercedes-AMG GT vehicle on the lineup. Powered by a 4.0 V8 TT with 585 hp (436 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, it completes a Nürburgring run in 7 m 04.632 s. Nonetheless, the company aspires to greater heights.

Media first learned that the GT R Black Series was in the works in June, and now the super sports coupe was spotted for the second time at the North Loop. Compared to the early test mule spied in June, this one has a redesigned aerodynamic kit and larger air intakes in the hood cover. It also sports a double rear wing.

The German company announced earlier that it intended to beat the lap times of the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (6:47.25) and the 911 GT2 RS MR (6:40.33) with its upcoming Black Series.

The technical specs remain veiled in mystery, although most predictions say the car will end up with the 4.0-liter V8 TT of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S (639 hp / 477 kW, 900 Nm / 664 lb-ft). As impressive as it may sound, this may still fall short of the engine power required to beat the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, whose 3.8 I6 TT mill churns out 700 hp (522 kW) along with 750 Nm (553 lb-ft).

The ‘Black Series’ moniker is also pure speculation based on the name of the last year’s SLS AMG flagship. We will likely not know what the range-topping GT R is called until next year.
