New Buick Enclave gets spotted in China

A couple photos of a large, camouflaged crossover SUV have recently emerged online without any kind of accompanying comment. At the moment, media supposed that it was an Opel based on the Peugeot 5008 platform – which would not be a stretch, given that PSA bought the German car marque two years ago. As it turns out now, though, the car was actually a Buick Enclave.

The second-gen Enclave has been on the North American market since 2017, and it is finally coming to China later this year. The Chinese version is quite a bit different from its Western counterpart, sporting new headlights, front grille and bumpers. According to the entry the manufacturer submitted to the Chinese Patent Bureau, six- and seven-seat variants will be available.

In all likelihood, the new Enclave will be based on the same General Motors C1XX platform as its U.S. counterpart. The entry in the patent database states that it is going to be considerably shorter: 4,981 mm (16.34 ft.) long with 2,863 mm (9.39 ft.) of wheelbase. To compare, the U.S. version is 5,189 mm (17.02 ft.) long and has 3.071 mm (10.08 ft) between the axles.

The China engine is a 2.0-liter gasoline turbo-four mill nominally rated at 230 hp (172 kW), which will most likely ship in tandem with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The U.S. variant has a 3.0-liter engine with 314 hp (234 kW) and the same kind of transmission.

Sales in China begin this fall.
