James Bond’s DB5 sells for record-smashing $6.3M+ at Sotheby’s

A 1965 Aston Martin DB5 produced specifically for James Bond movie Thunderball fetched an astronomical price at the recent Sotheby’s auction during the Monterey Car Week.

An anonymous buyer ended up bidding U.S. $6,380,000 for the unique ride, surpassing the auction holder’s most daring expectations ($6,000,000).

This particular DB5 was one of the two vehicles created for the fourth instalment in the James Bond saga, and also the first car to be closely associated with the Agent 007. It should be noted that this DB5 was never used during the actual shoot, but rather only during the ad shoot before the USA launch of Thunderball.

The Bond-mobile comes equipped with the entire arsenal of gadgets invented for the superspy franchise in the Goldfinger era, but then reworked for repeated real-life use. Sotheby’s advertised this fact especially, stressing that while filming a scene or two usually doesn’t impose any serious requirements on the car and its equipment, real-life use does.

Aside from James Bond movie producer Eon Production, the car had three owners throughout its life and is still reported to be in peak condition.
