VIDEO: Infiniti testing its Project Black S hybrid on track

Japanese luxury carmaker Infiniti is showing us a glimpse of the Project Black S, its latest hybrid coupe concept that originally debuted at the last year’s Paris Motor Show. The company said it would be testing the car on racetracks – and fulfilled that promise.

After a few months of computer-powered modeling, simulations, and dyno tests, Infiniti took its new vehicle to the Salzburgring racetrack in Austria. After a series of tests performed by Nico Hülkenberg of the Renault F1 racing team, the company has found a number of things to improve in the powertrain and the drive modes.

The hybrid car comes powered by a 568-hp (424-kW) drivetrain which incorporates a Q60 turbo-six engine, two heat generators, and a kinetic motor-generator.

Infiniti says it will announce the fate of the Project Black S before the end of the current year. If the testing results are satisfactory, the car may become a mass-produced model.
