Tesla Model S flexes its muscles before the ‘Ring beating Laguna Seca

The Tesla Model S has set a new world record at the Laguna Seca Raceway, California, USA, finishing the entire track in 1 minute 36.555 seconds. The time is now officially recognized as the benchmark for all 4-door sedans/saloons entering the grounds.

The U.S. carmaker beat the record previously held by the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 by one full second.

The Laguna Seca track is considered tricky due to its infamous corkscrew turn (a twist in the road combined with substantial altitude variation), but Tesla CEO Elon Musk dismissed it as a mere warm-up before the dreaded Nürburgring circuit in Germany. According to him, a modded seven-seat version of the Model S will challenge the Porsche Taycan for the record of the ‘Ring.

A Tesla Model 3 Performance attempted a North Loop run in April this year, but had to rev down due to overheating brakes and never set any kind of record.
