EDAG introduces an autonomous transportation system
German company EDAG came to the IAA 2019 with its own vision of a fully autonomous urban transportation system. Called the CityBot, the vehicle network can perform a variety of tasks.
All cars consist of two modules: the cockpit, which remains the same no matter what, and the pod, which supports dozens of options. It could be a passenger cabin, a cargo module, a cleaning unit, a harvester etc. The Frankfurt display car boasts a ‘lounge’ design and is essentially a cinema on wheels.
The CityBot produces zero emissions, since it operates on fuel cell tech. The project may find application in various spheres, such as passenger transportation, cargo delivery, waste disposal etc. EDAG representatives claim the transportation network concept may eventually rid the metropolitans from traffic jams and relieve their inhabitants from the excess nervous strain associated with driving.
