VW Golf Mk8 image leaks through the ID.3 multimedia system

The eighth generation of the Volkswagen Golf ought to have debuted at the ongoing 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, but the premiere date was postponed. Now an image has leaked online, showing us the silhouette of the upcoming hot hatch.

The company came to the show with its first mass-produced all-electric model, the ID.3. Browsing through its impressive multimedia library, someone accidentally stumbled upon this picture showing the next-gen Golf. If you look closely, you will recognize its signature headlights, sculpted sides, and c-pillars. Perhaps VW had originally planned to debut the two models simultaneously.

There were at least two reasons to postpone the premiere of the Golf Mk8, according to the German automotive company. First, it had to polish the electronics and make sure there weren’t any flaws. Second, it was concerned that the new ID.3 might draw public attention away from the Golf.

The updated hatchback series should therefore launch sometime in October. An estate/wagon variant of the Golf, as well as its AWD version (R) and performance trim (GTI) should all emerge in 2020. The Golf 8 GTE Hybrid remains penciled in for 2021.
