GRUMA rolls out a bulletproof ‘civilian’ G-Wagon

German car shop GRUMA Automobile GmbH has finished building the ENOK P1, a ‘Light Armored Patrol Vehicle’ based on the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4². Fancy a closer look?

The word ‘light’ in this particular case only refers to the fact that the car takes up to four people on board, including the driver. As far as bullet and blast protection goes, the modded G-Wagon is on par with the other similar military transports, capable of withstanding automatic gunfire and a mine explosion at the bottom.

The design of the SUV draws much of its inspiration from the LAPV Enok, an armored military car popular in Germany. Both even come based on the same Mercedes-G-Class chassis. However, the GRUMA ENOK P1 packs a number of great added features: a cabin almost completely wrapped in soft leather and Alcantara, 18-inch heavy-duty wheels (the stock 4×4² also gets an additional 22-inch set straight from the factory, which the armored car is lacking), a useful cargo bed, and portal axles.

Powering the build is a potent 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that burns gasoline for 422 hp (315 kW). In contrast, the original LAPV comes equipped with an inferior 3-liter diesel unit.
