Launch control enables BMW M8 do 0-100 km/h in 2.88 s

Martin Tomczyk, professional racing driver employed by the BMW M subdivision, has managed to get his M8 Competition going 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill in mere 2.88 seconds, which is 0.32 s faster than the spec sheet value.

On a curious side note, the Caterham Seven Superlight R500 racecar, which packs 520 horsepower per metric ton of weight, needs exactly the same time for the sprint. The M8, on the other hand, only has 332 hp per metric ton.

Martin Tomczyk then proceeded to demonstrate how fast the coupe can get to 200 km/h (124 mph). His best result is 9.93 seconds – a few hundred milliseconds faster than the Porsche 911 Carrera S.
Both runs were performed in Launch Control Mode.

The newest BMW M8 Competition comes equipped with a 4.4-liter, bi-turbo V8 engine rated at 625 hp (466 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque. The drivetrain includes the company’s signature M Steptronic eight-speed auto transmission and AWD system.
