Mecum Auctions to sell this 1957 Corvette restomod

The Mecum Auctions website has posted a sale announcement on this fully restored and modernized first-gen 1957 Chevrolet Corvette. The asking price for the convertible remains unannounced, but we would imagine collectors lining up in any event.

SRIII Motorsports painted the car Ceramic White with blue stripes reminiscent of those adorning historical Sebring and Le Mans racecars. They went for 16-inch Halibrand Kidney Bean wheels wrapped in Firestone Firehawk 225/ZR60 rubber all around.

Illinois-based Automotive Design Center provided the custom chassis, which was allegedly designed from the ground up for the model.

The entire project took 8 years to complete. It is worth pointing out, though, that the car was restored in the 1990s, which means it is only relatively modern. For instance, the coilovers are pretty outdated by modern standards, and so is the brake system. Furthermore, the engine is a 5.7-liter Corvette ZR1 V8 rated at 385 hp (287 kW) and 502 Nm (375 lb-ft) of torque. A six-speed ZF automatic transmission is used to send the power to the wheels.

On the other hand, the interior trim is quite deluxe, dominated by white and blue genuine leather. Features include power steering, ABS, power windows, and even climate control.

Ever since the restoration, the owner has kept the car in top condition.
