Toyota teases the ultimate RAV4

Toyota said it was working on the most powerful version of its RAV4 SUV ever – and gave us a single teaser photo of it.

It is official that the newcomer is a hybrid. The specs remain a mystery, but the latest-gen RAV4 Hybrid combines a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors for 222 hp (166 kW) total output. In all likelihood, the special edition will keep this powertrain with certain improvements. For example, the manufacturer might want to upgrade the standard NiMH batteries to lithium-ion and boost the electric engines somewhat (250 hp / 186 kW sounds realistic). Then again, speculations are just that – speculations.

The teaser image depicts the performance SUV wearing a Supersonic Red paintjob and sporting a different front fascia (vertical DRLs, new grille, reshaped bumper, and chrome accents).

The reveal will occur at the LA Auto Show coming up on November 20, 2019. Let us wait until then and see how it compares against the beefed-up TRD RAV4.
