VW thwarts rumors about impending Lamborghini sale

A couple days ago, Bloomberg reported that Volkswagen Group was considering selling the Lamborghini brand. Today, the German car corporation has stepped in with an official contradiction.

Sources claimed VW considered selling the Italian luxury marque altogether or otherwise making its shares public. Either move would result in the group of companies gaining huge profits, as well as an opportunity to better focus on its core brands (Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche). The report went as far as to claim that procedures were already underway to turn Lamborghini into an independent legal entity.

In its official statement issued earlier today, Volkswagen Group calls these claims unfounded and emphasizes that no plans to get rid of Lamborghini exist to date.

The group of companies encompasses 12 popular vehicle brands – light passenger cars, trucks and motorcycles among them.

Lamborghini has been part of VW since 1998, when it was acquired by Audi AG. The luxury marque has been doing exceptionally well lately, with the sales figures constantly on the rise. Its next major release is the hybrid supercar Sian, which is featured in the gallery and the video here.
