Mazda teases the cabin of its first EV

Mazda’s pioneer EV will enter the spotlight at the Tokyo Motor Show on October 23, 2019. Until then, the Japanese carmaker continues to tease us with tiny videos focusing on fine details of the still-unnamed model.

The video is only 15 seconds long and reveals the transmission joystick alongside two differently-sized selector knobs – likely used for multimedia functions. The company claims that the cabin trim uses exclusively nature-friendly materials. Aside from that, it is now official that the car comes equipped with a sound module that imitates the rumble of an internal combustion engine both outside and inside the car.

The earliest test mule was based on the Mazda CX-30 bodywork and packed a simple electric engine rated at 145 hp (108 kW) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) of toque, linked to a 35.5-kWh battery. Mazda says the production vehicle will have its own exterior and interior design; maybe the engine will get some improvements as well, although this is not official.
