Optical Illusion: Skoda testing VW Tiguan EV on the ‘Ring (not really)

A highly unusual Volkswagen Tiguan with excessively broad b-pillars has recently been spotted on the Nürburgring. As it became apparent later, the car is a test mule for an all-new Skoda e-SUV.

Hidden in the Tiguan body is the Eniaq, Skoda’s first fully electric crossover utility vehicle. Everything seems to indicate that the final production version of the car will be styled closely to the Skoda Vision iV Concept shown on the video here.

The Skoda Eniaq will come powered by two electric motors (one per axle) jointly rated close to 300 hp (224 kW) and a battery sufficient for 400 or 500 kilometers (250 – 310 miles) of range.

The MEB architecture, which debuted with the VW ID.3, lends itself to different kinds of car body styles and powertrain types. Volkswagen will soon use it to produce a new all-electric SUV series, the ID.4.

Industry pros say the Eniaq might end up being the most affordable battery SUV on the market. We will not know for sure until the official premiere, though, which is likely still at least a year away. In contrast, sales of the VW ID.4 should launch in early 2020.
