Chevrolet explains why the Corvette hardtop is here to stay

Speaking in a recent interview, Tadge Juechter, Executive Chief Engineer at Chevrolet, explained the need to make the latest generation of the convertible supercar a hardtop, rather than a soft-top. Apparently, there was some solid reasoning behind the decision.

Juechter said that the Board of Directors had considered fitting the new Corvette with a soft top, just like every generation before it, but rejected this plan after careful consideration. The underwhelming sales of the previous-gen Corvette Convertible may have had several reasons, but its unflattering appearance due to the ‘dated’ soft-top design was deemed one of the main factors.

He added that almost all competitors ship their roadsters with hard tops, because those serve the image of the modern sports car much better.
