Espionage photos

BMW’s all-electric i7 espied on a tow truck

Mercedes-Benz has recently shown us its full-size EQS Concept and will be launching production soon. Judging by these photos, which allegedly show a BMW i7 test mule, the Three-Pointed Star’s archrival tries to keep up.

The car still wears the dated body of the current BMW 7 Series (see video), which will soon be discontinued. This prompts the assumption that the final production vehicle might arrive based on the next-gen 7 Series tech.

The badge ‘Electric Test Vehicle’ on the side is a dead giveaway that this is an i7 test mule and nothing else. The headlights constitute the only part wrapped in camo, so maybe BMW is testing a new headlight tech right now.

Industry pros tend to believe that the entry-level BMW i7 will ship with dual electric motors jointly rated at 550 hp (410 kW). Connected to a 100-kWh battery, these will take it as far as 580 kilometers (360 miles) on full charge. The performance-oriented i7S will likely produce around 670 hp (500 kW) and pack a larger 120-kWh battery.

Sales should begin closer to 2022.
