Ford patents world’s largest windshield

The U.S. automotive giant has patented an original car roof design that involves curved beams and an enormous windshield, which should improve both the insolation of the cabin and the field of view.

The arrangement shown on the images is said to be flexible and scalable, so it can be implemented in virtually any kind of vehicle.

The front and the rear glass panes span almost the entire roof length, leaving only a small bridge in between, This gives rise to a big question: how safe would this kind of design be in an accident?

Addressing this issue, Ford claims the arched top of the car is specifically designed to soak in much of the side-on impact. Furthermore, the company plans on using finger-like supports to strengthen the roof in its principal mount points.
