Man drops his G-Wagon from 1,000ft / 300m height on a bet

Yet another delightfully weird news from Russia: a Moscow blogger hired a helicopter to take his Mercedes-Benz G-Class up in the air to the height of 300 meters (approx. 985 feet), then drop it onto the grass field below. A tractor scooped up and carried away the remains.

The incident happened in the Peski Airport in the town of Petrozavodsk. It is reported that the man bet his off-road ride and lost the bet. He then contacted all Moscow airports one after another, but was denied his whim due to potential trouble with the acting transportation policies. When he called the Airport of Petrozavodsk, however, the management suddenly agreed to provide the unusual service.

The car owner accompanies the video with a story about his frustration with the latest Mercedes-AMG G 63. Apparently, ever since he bought it in March 2018, the car has been annoying him with wind howling through the door seals and something breaking literally every month (and the dealer apparently refusing to proceed with free repairs within the warranty). He even compared his G-Class with a smartphone, arguing that every one of us knows the feeling of wanting to throw our glitched-up phone at the wall, hard. This is precisely what he wanted to do with his car, except in a more spectacular fashion.

There is a problem, though. As many commenters have pointed out, the crashed car, while technically a G-Class, doesn’t even remotely look like the AMG G 63. It looks like something released back in the 1990s, with one local newspaper claiming that this particular example has been identified as a model year 1995 G-Class.
