Lamborghini to skip the 2020 Geneva IMS

The annual International Motor Show in Geneva counts among the most prestigious events in the automobile industry, but this does not mean every manufacturer likes it.

For one, Lamborghini said it would be skipping this year’s show. The Italian supercar company had a booth there last year, but the priorities have changed since then. The sales are booming, with 8,205 Lamborghini-branded cars sold in 2019 (+43%). The Urus SUV sold twice as well as the year before, and the USA has become the key market for the brand with 2,374 cars sold there. China, Hong Kong, Great Britain, Germany, Middle East and Canada markets also proved quite lucrative.

The company stressed that it intended to arrange special events to unveil its new vehicles from now on. Eventually, the entire lineup should switch to hybrid power, but this likely won’t happen until at least the next generation. The Lamborghini Sian Concept shown here is the luxury marque’s first and only PHEV to date.

Audi has made a similar decision recently, saying it would ignore the 2020 New York Motor Show.
