Genesis stages a surprise reveal of its updated range

When the South Korean car manufacturer unveiled its first SUV – the GV80 – a few days ago, some journalists noticed teaser images of the company’s novelties flashing in the background.

When Luc Donckerwolke talked about the exterior design philosophy of the marque, the large screen behind him displayed as many as six previously unannounced new vehicles. No details followed after that, but we can still attempt to guess which ones those were.

Aside from the recognizable outlines of the abovementioned GV80, the images depicted a downsized crossover (GV70?), the facelifted G70 sedan, and the new G80. As for the remaining two, these could be the mass-produced version of the Mint hatchback concept and a sports car based on the 2018 Essentia Concept (watch the video for the latter).

Rumors have been circulating for a while that an Essentia-based sports car was in the works, but the company never commented on them. As such, we do not know whether the production vehicle will be an EV like its prototype or a traditional ICE-powered car. At any rate, it looks like we will be hearing more about all six before the end of 2021.

On a curious side note, the Genesis flagship– the G90 sedan – was missing from the presentation. Either the company decided to discontinue it after the current generation, or, perhaps more probably, it simply didn’t feel it necessary to include it in the presentation. After all, the G90 series has only recently gone through a facelift.
