Ferrari-based Lancia Stratos lookalike goes up on sale for nearly €1M

The unique MAT New Stratos Coupé you see here is actually built upon Ferrari F430 components, and it will soon be up for grabs priced between €700,000 and €900,000.

The real Lancia Stratos came out in the 1970s as a road-legal version of its Group B racing namesake. The officially claimed production quantity was 492 units, but most experts agree the number was deliberately exaggerated.

In 2000s, Chris Hrabalek felt like bringing back the iconic sports car and even sketched up its new design. His sponsors helped him produce a mock-up called the Fenomenon Stratos, with which he attended the annual Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland. Finally, ten years ago, the New Stratos Prototype emerged based on Ferrari F430 Scuderia tech.

Production seemed imminent, and a limited run of just 25 cars was announced. Ferrari CEO remarked favorably on the prototype vehicle, but nonetheless refused to provide the required chassis and tech. It wasn’t until 2018 that Hrabalek persuaded Manifattura Automobili Torino to work together on the exclusive series.

The MAT New Stratos depicted here is a mid-engine sports coupe that also uses the F430 Scuderia tech and comes powered by a 4.3-liter V8 rated at 548 hp (409 kW) and 519 Nm (383 lb-ft) of torque. The Ferrari donor vehicle had around 30,000 kilometers (18,600 miles) on its odometer when it was used for the conversion.

The car was made street-legal in Germany last year, and its owner drove it for another 300 km (186 mi) before deciding to sell it at an auction.
