Video: Porsche 911 vs. Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 may be the most affordable model on the lineup, but its top spec is nothing to scoff at. British YouTubers over at CarWOW felt like comparing the ‘wallet-friendly EV’ with the iconic Porsche 911 in a quarter-mile drag race test.

The Porsche 911.992 Carrera S comes equipped with a three-liter, six-cylinder engine fitted with dual turbochargers for 450 hp (336 kW) and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft) of torque. It weighs in at 1,515 kilograms (3,340 lbs) and uses an eight-speed PDK transmission to send the power to the rear wheels. Hitting 96 km/h (60 mph) from standstill takes only 3.5 seconds, and prices in Great Britain start from £93,000.

In contrast, the Tesla Model 3 Performance costs a ‘mere’ £53,000 in its top spec and has four-wheel drive. 490 hp (365 kW) and 660 Nm (487 lb-ft) of torque enable it to sprint 0.3 s faster than the Porsche, despite the higher curb weight of 1,847 kg (4,072 lbs).

The Tesla ended up showing consistent results throughout the entire test, while the Porsche 911 Carrera S needed switching between its transmission modes and reacting very fast during the initial run-up. Watch the video for the details.
