New VW Golf GTI revealed via spy pic

A photo showing the rear end of the next-gen Volkswagen Golf GTI cropped up online mere hours ago, so let’s have a closer look.

The robust roof spoiler is perhaps the single most noticeable detail. In all frankness, it would  perhaps be a better fit for the Golf GTI TCR, which needs all the downforce it can get. That said, it does make one wonder just how much horsepower the regular GTI will bring to the table.

Other than that, there are a few other design cues that make the new GTI stand out from the previous generation, especially the twin tailpipes and the sleek diffuser. Judging by the low ride height, the new sported-up Golf has rather stiff suspension springs.

The Golf GTI currently on the market ships with 2.0 liters of displacement and a turbocharger, which translates into 232 hp (173 kW). The transmission is six-speed manual by default, but you can opt for seven-speed automatic. The top spec boasts 286 hp (213 kW).
