Ford Galaxy & S-Max to get hybrid versions before production ends

In accordance with the plans Ford announced last year, the Galaxy and S-Max MPVs will leave the European markets by 2022. Before that, though, both will briefly become available in PHEV form.

Both minivans changed generations five years ago and received mid-life updates last fall. Despite this, both will be discontinued in about two years.

The PHEV specs will be identical to those of the Ford Kuga: a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated engine comes assisted by a single electric motor and an electro-mechanical CVT. The nominal output is estimated at 200 hp (150 kW) and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) of torque. All-electric driving will be available, but the range remains unknown.

Sales will begin in 2021. Production will take place in Valencia, Spain, at the same factory as the Kuga Hybrid. Ford plans to invest €42,000,000 into the factory soon to streamline production of new cars and lithium-ion batteries.
