Daimler AG announces the use of biopolymers in car part production

The German automotive company intends to recycle domestic waste to produce certain components of its Mercedes-Benz cars. Israeli-based startup firm UBQ Materials also takes part in the experimental project.

The UBQ technology enables turning organic waste into environmentally clean plastic materials with properties similar to those of popular thermoplastics. The companies go as far as to claim that their polymer is ‘the most harmless the nature has ever seen’.

Biopolymer production begins with the processing of solid household waste, which usually contains between 70% and 80% of organic products and between 20& and 30% of plastics. Once the waste is dissolved in liquid, the company mixes in recycled polymers. Watch the video for an overview of the process.
